Best Beans for the Classic Cafetière
The French press, also known as the cafetière, might not be the trendiest brewing method these days. Still, it remains one of the easiest and best methods for producing big, satisfying flavours and body, provided you get the right beans and the right grind, both of which you'll find right here!
If you like chocolatey and smooth, try Chocolate Brownie Blend, or for amplified, darker chocolate flavours and slightly toasty notes, try Chocolate Fondant Blend. If you're looking for something intense in flavour but soft in mouthfeel, try our single-origin Dark Chocolate Sumatra Mandheling. No grinder? No problem, just select "Pre-Ground – Cafetière" and we’ll grind for you just after roasting, when bagging up your coffee.
French Press Coffee FAQs
Q: What’s the best coffee for a French press?
A: Rich, smooth blends or fruity single origins, it just depends on your taste.
Q: Do I need a coarse grind?
A: Yes, although it’s all relative. French press grind is coarser than espresso grind, pourover, and Aeropress. If you don’t have a grinder, just select pre-ground for cafetiere at checkout, and we’ll grind for you as we’re bagging up your coffee, ready to be dispatched.
Q: Will I get sludge in my cup?
A: Getting some grinds in your brew is part of the charm of the French press, some would say 😉. A sludgy cafetière coffee, though, is often caused by too fine a grind and the brewing process. Try grinding slightly coarser, and use the mesh more like a strainer rather than forcefully plunging.
