Pour Over Coffee

Pour-over brings out subtle, complex flavours, especially in lighter, fruitier coffees. We can pre-grind, but for the best results, grind fresh at home.

Kev’s Top Pour Over Picks

If you’re into pour-over, you know the joy of precision, ritual, and flavour! This method can provide amazing clarity and really let lighter, complex coffees sing.

Some of my favourites for pour-over? Cranberry & Pomegranate Kenya and Rhubarb Crumble Kenyan Peaberry. Those fruity notes just pop. But even medium or dark roasts can work well for pour over; it just depends what you’re looking for.

If you don’t have a grinder, feel free to choose “Pre-ground—Pour Over” at checkout. We’ll grind for you while we bag your coffee.

Using pre-ground for pour-over isn’t ideal, though, especially for V60. There really isn’t a one-size-fits-all grind size for any brewing method, and that’s especially true for the V60.

Pour Over Coffee FAQs

Q: Do I need light roasts for pourover?

A: Not strictly, it just depends on the kind of flavours you’re looking for. If you like more acidic, juicer coffees, you’ll probably look for lighter roasts.

Q: Can I use pre-ground coffee?

A: Well, you can. We’ll grind it fresh just as we’re getting ready to dispatch, but pour over is one of the brewing methods that really needs dialing in, meaning making slight tweaks to the grind, so pre-ground isn’t ideal.

Q: What’s the best ratio to start with?

A: Start with 1:16 (coffee: water by weight) and adjust to taste. For example, 12.5 grams of ground coffee to 200 ml of water.
