The Coffeeworks started as a small range of coffees created for readers of coffeeblog.co.uk, and subscribers of the Coffee Kev YouTube channel.  I (Kev) interviewed people over a series of polls to find out exactly what they were looking for in their coffees.

As I was seeking specific flavour notes, when I found the flavour profile I was looking for, I named the coffee based on these. So we ended up with coffees such as "Chocolate Brownie Blend" and "Classic Italian Blend" - names which best describe how the coffee tastes.

As the business has continued to grow, we've continued to do this, but I do appreciate that when we name a coffee something like "Marzipan Truffle Blend" it may give the impression that we add flavourings.

We certainly don't, and we never would - but when well extracted, you may be surprised by the flavour notes you get from this coffee, via a wide range of brew methods, including espresso, filter & Aeropress.

If you don't get these notes, don't despair. My first suggestion is to let your coffee cool down slightly more and taste it again. 

Many people take the first sip when the coffee is still very hot. This can numb their taste buds, and by the time the coffee cools down to the level that they can actually taste it, they might taste very little.

It's also worth keeping in mind that freshly roasted coffee beans do require a bit more precision when it comes to brewing. If you're not enjoying the kind of taste notes you were expecting, have a look at our recipe guides.

How it Tastes

This is a blend of two speciality single origins, so it's a special blend, and the taste is chocolate, praline & marzipan.

If you've recently switched from "normal" coffee beans, meaning you used to pick up your coffee from the supermarket or when doing your shopping online, this is a great place to begin if you'd like to broaden your coffee horizons.

The way these two coffees work together at this medium roast level allows you to dip your toes in the water of specialty coffee without jumping in head first. 

The flavours are interesting, but in a crowd-pleasing way. You'll probably find this coffee tastes quite different from other coffees you've tried, but not in a way that is too jolting to the taste buds.

The chocolate & praline notes should bring a smile to your face, these are the more traditional flavour notes people tend to seek in coffee, and then the marzipan notes offer a pleasing & interesting glimpse into the kind of flavours speciality coffee has to offer.

Brazil & Colombia

Finca La Laguna Reserva Colombia

A small association of 12 coffee-producing families who were initially operating independently joined forces to produce their own very small family co-operative, using "strength-in-numbers" to reduce their vulnerability to the unfair dealings that individual family producers often face.

They later joined the Cencoic Co-Operative (Central Cooperativa Indígena del Cauca), a co-op of indigenous reserves in the Cauca region with nineteen groups totaling almost 2,800 smallholder families.

Fazenda Mió, Brazil

Mió is a family-run coffee farm owned by the Pellicer family, based in Monte Santo de Minas. 

After being completely wiped out by the devastating frosts of 1975 (which destroyed nearly half of Brazil’s coffee trees!), the family re-started with just 6 coffee plants, and from there grew Mió to becoming one of the major coffee producers in the area, spanning almost 1600 hectares between Southern Minas Gerais and the Mogiana highlands.

Nice coffee

Having read the promotion for the Marzipan Truffle blend, I thought I’d give it a try. As normal, the order was processed very quickly and delivered within 2-3 days. Upon arrival I was keen to see what I was getting so immediately made a brew. My first reaction was a little bit disappointing so I started to investigate what might be the problem and it didn’t take too long - my eagerness had overlooked the fact that the beans had only been roasted 2 days before delivery and hence going through the “de-gassing” process. Having waited for 10 days, I’m pleased to confirm that my second brew was much better - a nice rounded taste although I’m not sure I could detect Marzipan or Truffle. I’d certainly recommend giving it a try to see what you think, although I’m just as happy with the Chocolate Brownie blend.

Great tasting coffee

I make espresso with this and love the taste. Just grinding these beans fills my kitchen with the most aromatic smell. Love this blend 😋

I’ve been working my way through this bag, grinding on DF64 and brewing espresso on a MaraX… delicious! I’ve also been enjoying pourover from a Baratza ESP grind. Its quite a forgiving coffee, yealding confectionary-like almondy goodness.

Great blend with good balance

I have just finished my second 1kg bag of this and it has been a big hit throughout my family which is rare! It seems to have something for everyone’s taste profile. I will be buying more.
