The Myweigh Barista is a low-priced, simple to use & sturdy set of brew scales, suitable for use with all brew methods.

With coffee scales, especially when it comes to coffee scales suitable for espresso, there are many options at the very cheap end of things, £10-£20, and lots of choice between £100 - £250.

But if you’re happy to invest a little bit more, maybe around the £30 mark on a more sturdy and reliable set of scales that has most of the required features, there’s not much choice at all.

At this kind of price point, I don’t think there’s much that competes with the MyWeigh Barista, the only really annoying thing about them is the annoying beeping, but you can turn that off! See the instructions below for disabling the beep.

  • Max Capacity: 3Kg
  • Accuracy: 0.01g
  • Platform Size: 97mm x 119mm
  • Total Size: 150mm x 147mm
  • Height: 3 cm
  • Power: Micro USB rechargeable battery
  • Timer?: Yes, Timer & Countdown Timer.
  • Auto Mode: Countdown

So these are quite a big set of scales at almost 15x15cm, so you’ll need to ensure you have the footprint available on your footprint.

They seem more than accurate enough, and they’re fairly responsive. OK they’re not as fast at giving the current weight reading as the likes of the Rhino Stealth, Timemore Blackmirror & certainly not as quick as the Acaia Lunar, but they’re quick.

They have a timer mode, they have a countdown timer mode too - which I’ve never found a use for but maybe you will?

They’re rechargeable, OK they’re Micro USB which is a little bit outdated, but most of us have lots of spare micro USB cables knocking around, and it wouldn’t surprise me if they update this in the not too distant future.

My favourite thing about them is how sturdy and reliable they are. I’ve had mine for a good couple of years, they’ve been used and abused quite a bit, and they’re not showing any signs of giving up on me.

My least favourite thing about them is the constant beeping while timing, what’s that all about? You can disable it, though, here’s how (thanks to a comment from one of my YouTube subscribers):

  1. Turn the scale ON, then press and hold the timer button until the display flashes "00 00" or "00 01".
  2. Press “unit” to reduce the number of minutes to 00, then press the timer button.
  3. Pres “unit” to reduce the number of seconds also to 00 (so the reading is now 00:00), then press the timer button to confirm.

Annoying beep is now disabled!
