This single origin South American speciality coffee is produced by the Agraria APROECO cooperative, near Moyobamba, San Martin.
The varietals are Typica (90%) Caturra & Catimor. This is a washed Peruvian coffee & is grown at altitudes of 1000 - 1800 metres above sea level. It's a shade grown coffee, with the coffee being shaded by a canopy of trees, allowing for a much more natural environment conducive to organically growing, without the need for chemical pesticides.
Shade grown coffee farms are a paradise for birds and other wildlife. Although it may seem counter intuitive to welcome birds to attractive looking coffee cherries, studies like this one in Jamaica have shown that birds and other naturally concurring wildlife are part of a natural eco system that works perfectly if we don't mess with it.
When you try to keep birds away, you then have to find a synthetic way to do the job they would usually do of managing the likes of berry borers, this means chemicals, and chemicals, not being a natural part of the eco system, completely bugger it all up.
This is a triple cert coffee, which means it's certified as Organic, Fair Trade, and Rainforest Alliance. The SCA cup score is 82-83, and this is graded as grade 1 coffee.
Sweet & Juicy Single Origin Peru
A great brew once you’ve dialled in to extract the best of this bean. I’m using a Sage pro which is proving a great piece of kit to explore the many beans Coffeeworks offer!
This is a nice smooth cuppa it’s our first try of this bean and we quite like it.
It may not be my number one Favourite bean flavourwise, but what a superbly Roasted fruit. As a Coffee it has a lasting flavour, deep and varied. For fans of Peruvian it's a must try
Flavoursome, but doesn't QUITE meet the promise of the aroma. Still delicious.
